Team Stompy and Zzyzx Motorsports join forces for Solo Nationals

September 8, 2005

Joel Fehrman and Tommy Pulliam, of Atlanta, GA, drivers of the 2005 Subaru WRX STi affectionately known as "Stompy", have partnered with Steve Sulatycki of Zzyzx Motorsports, Inc., of Overland Park, KS, for the 2005 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships in Topeka, KS. Joel and Tommy plan to pursue the E Street Prepared (ESP) class title using a newly designed coilover suspension from Zzyzx Motorsports. The coilover design incorporates an all-aluminum housing utilizing Koni double-adjustable race shocks.

"Steve has solved many of the geometry issues common to aftermarket coilover
suspensions for the Subaru WRX," Joel says. The Zzyzx Motorsports design offers unprecedented compression and droop travel, along with a range of alignment and clearance adjustability previously unavailable. "I now have the static camber and toe settings that I need, along with clearance for 285 width tires. In addition I have nearly 7 degrees of caster. That kind of alignment was simply not a possibility with previous coilover designs."

The benefits of the Zzyzx Motorsports coilover design are not limited to geometry improvements. The incorporation of the race-proven Koni 8611 series shock design allows for extensive and predictable adjustment of compression and rebound damping. Joel hopes that this combination will provide the edge they need to overcome the tough competition in Topeka. "Some of my competitors have invested heavily in products from Moton and
other top damper manufacturers. I feel that we have the damping characteristics we want along with the best coilover design available on the market specifically tailored to our Subaru. As a competitor, the primary issue we face is finding the right mix of camber, castor, bump travel, droop travel, clearance and damping. The Zzyzx Motorsports coilovers address all our needs - it's a complete solution."

Images of the new Zzyzx Motorsports design as installed on "Stompy" are shown below.

As delivered. Clearly a unique coilover offering unprecedented flexibility and strength.

Static ride height. Note that the fenders on "Stompy" are modified so the stance looks higher than it is. Look closely on the clearance of the front spoiler to get a better idea of the actual ride height.

Lifted off the ground, you'll note the 3"+ of droop travel at the front and rear.
